GARY ANDERSON admitted he was “over the moon” as Scotland made it a glory World Cup double.
Just nine hours after John McGinn’s goal delivered a win over Haiti in Boston, Ando and Cameron Menzies roared into the World Cup of Darts semi-finals.
The Dartan Army pair beat Republic of Ireland 8-5 with a gritty display after making it ELEVEN successive leg wins.
On the back of their 8-0 whitewash over Norway, the duo went 3-0 in front of Willie O’Connor and Mickey Mansell.
It then got a bit tense as the Irish fought back but a vital double five from Anderson kept the Scots in front at 6-4 before closing out the clash.
Now they will meet either England or Wales in the semis tonight in Frankfurt.
Anderson said: “I’ve got a lot of time for Willie and Mickey. If you watch Willie every year he’s getting better and better. He’s a class act.
“That was going to be a hard game and we scraped it at the end.
“First time year, we’ve done well. Last year Scotland didn’t do too well. Over the moon.”
While Anderson was typically prolific, Menzies was also impressive by producing the winning doubles in the final two legs.
On the vital double five that turned the game, Menzies said: “I think the closest I got to it was an Uber! I was nowhere near it and Gary hit it.
“Ireland were on a wee bit of a run at that point. But we held that throw. That double five settled us a little bit. We were in a bit of a rut losing.
“Willie is flying at the moment. On Mickey, you don’t play on the PDC tour for 15 or 16 years being a bad player. He’s scudded me a few times.”
