BUNTING CLINCHES SWISS DARTS TROPHY

28/09/2025 By Aaron Nijjar

STEPHEN BUNTING clinched the Swiss Darts Trophy after beating Luke Woodhouse 8-3 in the final.

‘The Bullet’ lifted his SIXTH title of the year, adding to a brace of World Series wins, a Players Championship double success, and his maiden European Tour crown at April’s International Darts Open.

World No.4 Bunting scooped the £30,000 winner’s cheque to keep his sparkling 2025 season rolling.

Bunting thanked all the fans for their support in Basel and was quick to pay tribute to runner-up Woodhouse, who reached his first Euro Tour final.

He said: “There is a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes. I need to mention a few people – my family, my sponsors and my management.

“Also, these wonderful fans, they got behind me, they were with me all throughout the week. This one is for you guys, thank you very much.

“Luke has had an absolute fantastic week. I said to him there is no better time to be playing your best darts when you are going into the ProTour’s.

“He’s a fantastic player, we all know how good he is. This will give him a lot of confidence pushing through to the future tournaments.

“There are big things for him that are coming.”

Former Masters champ Bunting says he won’t rest on his laurels and is targeting even bigger honours before the year is out.

He added: “I feel like I am playing the best darts of my life and delivering good performances even in spiky shoes.

“I’m so happy with this win, it means a lot.

“I’m number four in the world which shows how consistent I have been. But you can’t take nothing for granted in this game.

“I think I can push myself a bit more and get higher.

“So, I need to keep on my toes, stay on the practice board, make sure I stay humble and keep on doing what I am doing.

“Hopefully there is a big tournament win coming soon.”

Bunting reeled off back-to-back 13 darters and a 76 checkout to take a 3-1 lead against Woodhouse.

‘Woody’ clawed one back, but Bunting responded in style with a brilliant 11-darter before nailing a clinical 110 checkout to storm 5-2 ahead at the St Jakobshalle Arena.

The pair traded legs before Bunting turned on the afterburners, rattling off two in a row and sealing the victory with a cool 87 checkout, landing treble 17 and double 16.

St Helens thrower Bunting averaged a stellar 101.84 to secure a 6-2 triumph against Raymond van Barneveld in the quarter-final.

Bunting averaged 101.44 and chucked in five maximums to edge Gian van Veen 7-6 in the semi-final.
