STEPHEN BUNTING has vowed that he should not to be written off in the Premier League.

‘The Bullet’ is looking to achieve his first Premier League win on Night Six tonight (Thursday) at Nottingham as he takes on Gerwyn Price.

Former Masters winner Bunting sits bottom of the Premier League table.

However, the 39-year-old can count himself unlucky to not secure a victory as he has a terrific tournament average of 98.08.

World No.5 Bunting believes having a sports psychologist has kept him in a positive frame of mind as he chases that elusive first win.

He said on The Bunting Effect: “Three or four years ago I would have took losing very difficult. I would have locked myself away.

“Hence why the sports psychologist and hypnotist come into it.

“Nowadays every defeat I analyse to see what I can improve and take every positive from the game.

“When your chasing wins you sometimes flick towards the negative.

“So, I’ll soon dust myself down.”

Bunting also revealed he should not be underestimated in the tournament.

He added: “I think the standard of the Premier League is insane.

“That was my fifth game and I’ve lost with some really good averages.

“My tournament average is 98 but Nathan [Aspinall] has averaged 107, Van Gerwen has averaged 109 and Luke [Littler] has averaged 112.

“You’re playing against the top players in the world week in and week out.

“I also know there will be games that I play as well as that.

“There is still a long way to go in the Premier League so don’t write me off yet.”

The Scouse thrower averaged 100.49 against Luke Humphries on Night Three and 104.89 against Luke Littler on Night Four but still lost both matches showing how competitive the Premier League is.

Bunting has had a great start to the year winning the Bahrain Masters, reaching the semi-final of the World Championship and quarter-final at the World Masters.

It is only a matter of time before he gets his first Premier League win and challenges for a play-off spot in the Premier League.
