CLAYTON REVEALS REASON FOR LIMP IN PREMIER LEAGUE

JONNY CLAYTON has opened up about his battle with painful gout in his ankles.

‘The Ferret’ was seen limping during his walk-on at Night Six of the Premier League, but still beat Michael van Gerwen 6–3 in the quarter-final in Nottingham.

Oche180 understands Clayton experienced a flare-up in his left ankle, explaining why he appeared to hobble during the contest.

World No.5 Clayton deals with inflammation in his joints, though he is often reluctant to discuss it.

Clayton spoke to Oche180 on Zoom yesterday, opening up about the condition and how it continues to affect him.

He said: “You could fall off a step and break an arm. You can’t overthink life. You take it as it comes.

“I’ve got gout. I suffer with gout. That just turns up as and when it wants to. It’s part of life, isn’t it?

“If you break an arm, you break an arm.

“It is in my ankles usually. It’s a painful thing when it’s there, but you’ve just got to get on with it.

“It lets you know that it’s there. Don’t you worry about that. You know that it’s there.

“But adrenaline is massive. You just carry on through it.”

The Welshman reached the quarter-final of the UK Open last weekend before falling 10-8 to Gerwyn Price.

Clayton is unbeaten in all six of his Premier League quarter-final clashes and claimed victory on Night Three in Glasgow, leaving him top of the table.
