JONNY CLAYTON won the Players Championship 14 in Rosmalen after beating Dominic Gruellich 8-2 in the final.

‘The Ferret’ produced SIX ton-plus averages and dropped just 11 legs across the course of the day to clinch his seventh Players Championship title.

World No. 5 Clayton averaged a whopping 109 and hit a super 121 checkout in the final leg of the match to dispatch German ace Gruellich who made his first PDC senior final.

Four-time major winner Clayton revealed he is now aiming to win the World Championship and World Cup this year.

He said: “If I can find this form more consistently then I’m dangerous.

“Things went good for me today. Hopefully it carries on going for the rest of the year.

“I’m chasing that £1million for the World Championship.

“Hopefully me and Gezzy play together at the World Cup this year for Wales. I would love to lift that trophy for a third time.

“But genuinely I take each tournament as it comes one at a time.”

Clayton overcame Michael van Gerwen 6-1 in the last 16 as he took out a 121 finish and averaged a stellar 95 to defeat the Dutchman

Former Premier League winner Clayton hammered James Wade 6-0 in the Quarter-Final averaging 101 and sealing the win with a 116 checkout.

The Welshman secured a comfortable 7-3 victory over Danny Noppert in the Semi-Final.

Meanwhile, Gruellich took several notable scalps, overcoming the likes of Daryl Gurney, Dirk van Duijvenbode and Michael Smith on his way to the final.

Peter Wright was again among the early losers, bowing out 6-5 to Alexander Merkx, while Monday’s winner Damon Heta lost to Ricardo Pietreczko in the third round.
