MIKE DE DECKER was left seething after his tense last-16 defeat to Cameron Menzies at the European Darts Trophy in Göttingen.
The match was a dramatic affair, with both players missing multiple match darts before Menzies edged a 6-5 victory.
World No. 39 Menzies known for his eccentric personality and theatrical displays, was in full showman mode throughout the contest.
At one point, the Scotsman even dropped to the floor after miscalculating a shot, much to the amusement of the crowd.
Former UK Open finalist Vincent van der Voort said he had heard from close friend Michael van Gerwen that De Decker was furious after the loss.
He told Darts Draait Door podcast: “Mike completely lost it and couldn’t keep his emotions in check. He was furious after the match, and I can understand why.
“You could make a new episode about him [Cameron Menzies] every week. He’s just a bit crazy—not in a bad way, that’s just who he is.”
Six-time Players championship winner Dirk van Duijvenbode also recalled another example of Menzies’ antics, recalling an incident at the Belgian Darts Open.
He added: “At the Belgian Darts Open, he lost 6-5 in the first round to Canadian Matt Campbell.
“Even two hours later, he was still sulking and acting strangely—hugging Campbell over and over.
“I must have seen them do it six times! I just thought, ‘What on earth is going on here?’”
Menzies’ run in the tournament was short-lived, as he fell 6-3 in the last eight to Ryan Joyce.
‘Cammy’ had an brilliant 2024 campaign as he won his maiden Players Championship title and made his first quarter-final appearance at a major.
The 35-year-old has continued his great form into this year as he reached the final of the Players Championship Four.
