GREAVES REVEALS MOST PAINFUL DEFEAT AND TOUR CARD ASPIRATION

BEAU GREAVES admits her Grand Slam debut left her “disappointed” and “disheartened” after agonising last-leg defeats in both group games.

Women’s world No. 1 Greaves was narrowly beaten 5-4 by Nathan Aspinall in her maiden match at the major in 2023.

Doncaster Darter Greaves dispatched Ricardo Pietreckzo 5-1 before being edged out by Damon Heta to prevent her proceeding to the last 16 at Wolverhampton.

Three-times Lakeside champ Greaves revealed the pain of that near-miss has stayed with her ever since.

She told the Tops and Tales podcast: “When I played my first year at the Grand Slam and I lost both games 5-4.

“I felt disappointed then because I lost both last leg deciders and I think I had darts in each one as well.

“I was disappointed because if I held throw, I’m winning, I’m going through.

“That was probably the one I felt disheartened about.

“Sometimes I feel really down when I don’t play well on a big stage. I think, ‘God, I wish I could go back and just do it all differently.’”

The 21-year-old has claimed a remarkable 36 Women’s Series titles.

‘Beau n Arrow’ increased her stunning winning run on the Women’s Series to 32 matches this year.

But Greaves failed to defend her Women’s World Matchplay crown in Blackpool last week, reaching the quarter-final before losing to eventual winner Lisa Ashton.

Greaves has become a dominant force in the ladies’ game and still wrestles with whether she should chase a PDC Tour Card to compete with the men.

She added: “I do want to give it a go. Sometimes I think, ‘Yeah, I can do it. I want that life. I want to try and be successful.’

“But I really enjoy my ladies’ darts as well, which I don’t really want to let it go. I’ve loved it. Lakeside, I absolutely loved.

“I still love it. I’ve won three titles there. Growing up playing the ladies and stuff, and it’s just how I like to play the game.

“Playing the men is a different mindset.

“I want to try and give it a go. But sometimes I think, I’m a girl. Why can’t I have a nice career in ladies’ darts?

“Why do I have to push myself? Because people want to see it on telly.”
