GURNEY BACKS ROCK TO BOUNCE BACK AFTER PREMIER LEAGUE PAIN

DARYL GURNEY says Josh Rock will be “better” now the Premier League is over ahead of their World Cup defence.
The world No8 finished bottom after winning just four games during a tough debut season in the competition.
Rocky has still enjoyed an impressive year away from the weekly roadshow, winning the Austrian Darts Open and reaching the semi-finals of the UK Open.
Gurney reckons the end of the major tournament can help Rock reset mentally before the pair reunite on the International stage.
He said: “I’m feeling good for it. I just can’t wait until the Premier League’s over because I think at this stage when Josh knows he can’t make the O2, it’s hard work.
“As soon as the Premier League’s over it will be better for Josh.”
The Northern Ireland duo lifted the title together last year and quickly established themselves as one of the most exciting partnerships in darts.
Gurney admits both players are desperate to get back together and add more silverware.
He added: “I am looking forward to it and Josh is looking forward to it just as much as I am.
“We can’t wait till we receive our shirts with a gold star at the back of it.
“That is going to be a proud day for me and Josh.
“Me and him will give one another a good kick up the butt when it comes to the World Cup again.”
Gurney and Rock are aiming to become just the third nation, after England and the Netherlands, to successfully retain the trophy in Frankfurt.
