MITCHELL LAWRIE admits it would be a “dream” to represent Scotland at the World Cup alongside Gary Anderson.
‘Wee Sox’, just 15, has a staggering FORTY-year age gap to Ando, 55, but that is not denting the WDF world No.1’s hopes of teaming up alongside the legend.
The Renfrew thrower has taken the amateur circuit by storm, finishing runner-up at Lakeside on his debut and already landing SEVEN WDF-ranked major titles.
Lawrie opened up on his ambitions to break into the national set-up and partner two-time world champion Anderson before he eventually calls time on his glittering career.
He told Oche180: “Before Gary leaves, that would be the dream. I know Cammy [Menzies] and Alan [Soutar], If Peter [Wright] does somehow drop out of that spot, will also be really wanting to go on and play.
“Peter says he still has many years left in him. If you know yourself you can still do it, I believe he still can.
“I believe Peter is still a great player. On his day, he is just as dangerous as anybody else.
“Him and Gary still do great when they play pairs. Last year, they ran into a great Netherlands side that played really well.
“They played Gian van Veen and Danny Noppert. Gian van Veen, his year speaks for itself, and Danny Noppert was very unlucky not to get in the Premier League.
“He was making a lot of TV major semi-finals and finals.”
Lawrie also revealed he plans to switch his walk-on music if he secures a Tour Card next season and makes the step up to compete in the PDC.
The Scot currently uses “The Glen” by Beluga Lagoon as his entrance track, but it is the same as fellow compatriot Cameron Menzies.
He added: “I say we play a game of rock, paper, scissors! I’ve got a few in mind.
“I don’t actually, right now, off the top of my head, know what I would go with.”
