LUKE LITTLER and Luke Humphries want to break the England record and hit FIVE successive World Cup crowns.
The World No.1 and No.2 were speaking live to Laura Woods on ITV’s World Cup coverage in New York.
It’s just 24 hours before they star in the US Masters at Madison Square Garden.
But Humphries revealed that the pair have spoken about outdoing Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis’ record of four World Cup wins on the bounce.
After the US Masters, the duo will both attend England’s last group game against Panama at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Saturday.
Littler said: “I tried to catch some of the game against Ghana. It didn’t go our way but hopefully we can win the game whilst we are there.”
On their own World Cup win in Frankfurt a fortnight ago, Littler said: “For me it was amazing. Luke has done it before with Michael Smith.
“We both felt that pressure in the first game against Spain because obviously last year didn’t go to plan.
“But it was just about winning that first game and as the tournament got further and further, that’s when we started to get better and better. That’s why we picked up the title.”
Humphries revealed that the pair want to dominate the World Cup for the next half a decade.
He added: “The goal for me is to surpass them both [Adrian Lewis and Phil Taylor] to win five. I said to Luke after we won the first one this could be a precedent to go on and break their record.
“I think they won four on the trot. We are looking to win five on the trot. This year we sorted what we did wrong and thought we are going to really work as a team. Like Luke said the first game was a bit dodgy. But as we got into the competition we relaxed a lot. We got the record average in the final as well for the World Cup.”
Humphries is the defending US Masters champ when it starts tomorrow.
He continued: “It’s great for us coming over here, it’s a great city. Since I came here three or four years ago, we’ve sold out 10,000 on the Friday and Saturday.
“It’s growing so much, it’s amazing for the sport.”
Littler added: “I think coming here for the first time two years ago it was like wow. Obviously I am a massive boxing fan. I stayed up late watching the boxing and the UFC. Then to come here and do my job it has been fun. I am just missing that touch of the added title so hopefully I can get it and take it from him.”
