LEWIS COMEBACK MET WITH DOUBTS

VINCENT VAN DER VOORT claimed Adrian Lewis looked “rusty and not eager” on his return to competitive darts.
Two-times World Champ Lewis teamed up with Steve Beaton for Team England at the Modus International Pairs last week but failed to qualify for the finals.
Stoke-on-Trent thrower Lewis had a two-year hiatus from the sport after taking a break from playing in tournaments in April 2023.
Former UK Open finalist Van der Voort reckons Lewis no longer has the hunger to compete on the big stage.
He said: “He looked rusty and not eager.
“You didn’t see someone working to get his Tour Card back. You have to want it, you have to want to win. With Lewis, I didn’t see that at all.
“He’d rather play exhibitions, maybe the odd Super Series week. But Q-School in January? I don’t see him doing that.”
Team England finished their group-stage campaign with four wins and four losses, landing in fourth place and just missing out as only the top three nations advanced to the next stage.
Van der Voort believes the hopes of Lewis ever recapturing his very best days are slipping away.
He added: “After being out for so long, it’s almost impossible.”
Lewis remains a great on the oche, he has won four PDC Majors, with two World Championships, the European Championships, and UK Open.
‘Jackpot’ also boasts 12 Players Championship titles and a Euro Tour crown in his illustrious career.
