LITTLER TIPPED TO REWRITE DARTS HISTORY AFTER WORLD CUP GLORY

LUKE LITTLER and Luke Humphries have been tipped to make World Cup history with a record-breaking three-peat.
England’s stars finally delivered on their immense promise by powering their country to a record-extending sixth title in Frankfurt on Sunday.
The lethal Lukes erased the memories of their shock second-round exit to hosts Germany 12 months earlier with a string of dominant displays throughout the tournament.
World No1 Littler and former world champ Humphries sealed glory with a commanding 10-5 victory over Michael van Gerwen and Gian van Veen in the final, averaging a stunning 104.77 as a team.
Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis successfully defended their crown in 2012 and 2013, while Dutch duo Van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld also claimed back-to-back trophies in 2017 and 2018.
But no partnership has ever won the World Cup in three consecutive years.
Sky Sports pundit Laura Turner believes Littler’s relentless pursuit of records could see England rewrite the history books.
She told the Love the Darts Podcast: “It feels that way, it really does.
“They’ve already implied and said they want to come back.
“Littler especially, wants to break records. He is already breaking records, but now he wants to be that team that wins it back-to-back.
“That’s the new goal. And if he wins it back-to-back, it’ll be: well what about three in a row?”
Former PDC Tour Card holder Matthew Edgar also sees similarities between Littler and the sport’s greatest-ever winner, Taylor.
He added: “If you remember Taylor, after he won a trophy it was always: ‘What’s the next one I can win?
“There was no victory lap, there was no night out, it was always about what’s next.
“I get that vibe from Littler as well.”
