WAYNE MARDLE revealed he once suffered a gruesome finger injury from a corned beef tin before the British Open.
The discussion arose after Luke Humphries suffered an unexpected injury by cutting his finger just before his dramatic 6-5 final defeat to Luke Littler on night of the Premier League in Glasgow.
World No.1 Humphries later explained on social media: “I pulled my darts out the practice board and cut it on the wires then it just wouldn’t stop bleeding haha.”
As the conversation turned to unfortunate injuries, Mardle shared his own painful experience.
He laughingly said on Sky Sports: “I once ripped a finger open before the British Open on a corned beef tin.”
His co-commentator Dan Dawson replied: “Did it help?”
The former four-time World Championship semi-finalist exclaimed: “No! It did not.”
Curious about the silver lining, Dawson then asked: “How was the corned beef?”
Mardle, clearly still fond of the meal despite the painful ordeal laughed and said: “It was a lovely sandwich. With red onion and mayonnaise. Oh, it was wonderful.”
Not convinced, Dawson simply responded: “Sounds disgusting.”
Mardle, ever the entertainer, said with a grin: “Watch your face!” The pair then proceeded to chuckle.
