DAMON HETA delivered strong self analysis ahead of his Maastricht showdown with Jonny Clayton.
The Australian favourite booked a second round tie against the reigning champion with a success over Maikel Verberk in round one of the Dutch Darts Championship.
However, despite advancing into a mouth-watering Saturday crunch against the Welshman, Heta gave an honest assessment of his Friday evening performance against the home qualifier as he ran the rule over his display.
He said: "I don't know what I did there. I thought, yeah, I would run away with it. I thought, I've turned up now, get the job done, move on to the next one. Oh, no, I'll chuck in a 40 here and a 30 there. Well done, idiot!
"At the end of the day, I got the job done and that's all that matters. We push on.
"Sometimes you take your eye off the ball. You don't mean to. It just happens. The lazy darts come and you've got to tell yourself you've got to be on the ball, and I just wasn't at times. But then, when I needed to be, I was and I tried to keep that level of concentration. It didn't happen for me and then it did. It was a weird game."
Heta confirmed his status to win the match against Verberk by a 6-4 scoreline and handed credit to his opponent for the resilience shown in the contest.
He said: "Fair play, he got through the qualifiers as well. You come up here, playing in front of your home crowd, that's even hard because you want to impress, you want to do your best and I get that. I've been there plenty of times, but for myself, like I said, this win, it means a lot and I get to push on for the next one."
