Evans vows to drink a pint of gravy if he qualifies for World Championship

RICKY EVANS has vowed to down a PINT of gravy if he somehow qualifies for the World Championship.

The Kettering thrower has put his hatred of the festive sauce aside as he bids to make an eighth consecutive appearance at Ally Pally.

Evans, 36, is currently at risk of missing out on the sport’s biggest tournament after slipping outside the qualifying spots in both the world rankings and ProTour Order of Merit.

‘Rapid’ is currently No.52 in the world and No.70 on the ProTour Order of Merit, with both qualification routes requiring a place inside the top 40.

He wrote on social media: “I’ll drink a pint of it (gravy) if I somehow qualify.”

But the Kettering thrower made his feelings towards the Christmas favourite clear last year while chatting to Sky Sports’ Polly James on stage.

He said: "Hands up if you like gravy? Eh. Hands up if you like meat and gravy? Hands up if you think gravy is the devil!?

"I hate gravy. Everyone loves it don't they? I just hate it. The smell and everything.

"Give me cranberry sauce or ketchup will do. That's my opinion. My Christmas Day meal will be all the meat. The mash and the roast potatoes. Essentially all the meat and potatoes. I don't mind the old veg. Just not gravy."

Evans made the promise after fellow Evans, Kenyan star Evans Njuguna, missed out on qualification in a dramatic final-leg shootout.

David Munyua won the North African qualifier to book his place at the major, meaning Njuguna narrowly missed out.

Munyua made history last December by becoming the first Kenyan to qualify for the World Championship.

He shot to fame after fighting back from 2-0 down to stun Mike De Decker 3-2 in round one of the Premier event.
