Littler reveals surprise career plan for life after darts

LUKE LITTLER revealed he could trade the oche for the commentary box when he eventually retires.

The world No1 still has plenty of years ahead of him on stage as he continues to rewrite the record books.

Littler became the youngest-ever world No1 last year at just 18 years and 299 days old.

The Nuke, 19, is already one of only four players to win successive PDC World Championship titles, achieving the feat as a teenager.

Darts players typically reach their peak in their 30s, meaning Littler could have his best years still to come.

Chatting to former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Littler says he could one day swap the arrows for the microphone.

Littler was asked what he expected to be doing by the time he reaches Scholes’ age of 51.

He responded: “Surely retired at 51. Family. Maybe even doing darts commentary or something like that.”

Scholes then replied: “Do you fancy a bit of that, yeah?”

Littler was then quizzed on who his favourite darts commentator is, with the Warrington thrower picking two familiar voices.

He said: “I've got to go Wayne [Mardle] or Stuart Pyke.”

Littler has already racked up 30 PDC titles, including 15 Premier events, despite being only in his third full year on the professional circuit.

Former England star Scholes then asked whether Littler believes he can surpass Phil Taylor’s record haul of 16 world titles, two of which came during his BDO career.

He said: “I think I could. Definitely could. I’ve got, probably say, 30, 40 years to do it.

“I’ve obviously won two in the space of three appearances, so I’ve got a good record. Obviously as the time goes on, if I really want it.

“If I really want it, then I’m sure I’ll go and get it, but I don’t know what’s around the corner. Tomorrow I might just retire and just hate darts! You don’t know.”
