PORTER ADMITS PREMIER LEAGUE FORMAT COULD CHANGE

MATT PORTER admits the Premier League format could be changed after fans complained about seeing the same matches every week.
The PDC chief executive addressed growing criticism surrounding the current eight-player system, which has been in place since 2022.
Under the existing structure, the stars face each other repeatedly across 16 weeks, with nightly knockout tournaments deciding the winner each Thursday.
But some viewers have grown frustrated by the constant recurring match-ups throughout the season.
Porter insists the format still creates huge drama inside arenas but admitted the PDC are continuing to review possible alternatives.
He told Oche180: “People see this format through different eyes.
“If you go once to an arena you want to see a winner on the night and drama until the very last dart.
“If you are watching it every week on TV some people will say they want to see the top players playing each other all the time.
“Other people will say the repetition maybe takes that away from the drama.
“So there is different perspectives to look at it through.”
Porter acknowledged that pleasing every spectator is impossible but hinted the current set-up may not last forever.
He added: “We try and balance it and find the right answers.
“Obviously, you are never going to please everybody with everything that you do.
“I think whilst people are talking about it that shows they care and we can’t ask much more than that.
“We’ve had it for four years, we wouldn’t have it for eight years.
“So, if you look at the life cycle of it then it will certainly be in that part than the ascendency.
“You are never going to pick something that will please everyone but we will always look at what we can do.
“So, watch this space.”
When Porter was asked whether darts could eventually introduce a Championship or League One version of the competition, he laughed: “You just stick to presenting!”
