GERWYN PRICE has dismissed any suggestion he is part of the “big three” alongside Luke Humphries and Luke Littler.
World No.12 Price has been in stellar form this year as he won the Players Championship Two title and has picked up two nightly victories in the Premier League.
Price boasts the most 110+ averages on tour this year (4) and second most 105+ averages (8) trailing Littler who has a remarkable 18.
‘The Iceman’ currently sits fourth in the Premier League table and trails seven-time winner Michael van Gerwen by only one point.
Despite being one of the sport’s top competitors, Price rejected the idea that he now belongs to the so-called “big three” alongside world number one Humphries and reigning world champion Littler.
He said: “No, I’m not in any league. I’m in a league of my own.
“I don’t put myself in any bracket. I’m not comparing myself to any of the Lukes or Michael.
“When I win, they are not even in my league, so I don’t compare myself to them.”
Former World champion Price admitted he is in the perfect form to claim his first Premier League title.
He told talkSPORT: “My game is in a positive place. I feel like I can win every game I’m going into. In the past 12 to 18 months that has not been the case.
“As long as I don’t get bored which I do easily sometimes. The main thing is I’m enjoying it and playing well.
“If I keep playing like this there is no reason why I can’t keep picking up majors and get into the play-offs for the Premier League.
“Why not I’ve made the final before. Slipped up against Michael [van Gerwen]. That was a time I should have won. But yeah I’m playing well enough to win this.”
The Markham thrower is the only player to have beaten teen sensation Littler in six consecutive matches.
‘Gezzy’ revealed his mindset and psychological strength could be playing a part in his success against ‘The Nuke’.
He added: “No player is in my head. That’s what the difference is with other players.
“They overthink about it too much. Obviously not Luke Littler he is a great player.
“Whereas I will just go up. It doesn’t matter who I’m playing whether it’s one of the Lukes, Michael, Jonny Clayton or someone in the pub.
“I will play the exact same. I know if I play my A game I will win nine times out of ten. So I don’t really worry about anyone else.
“But I think other players do. Maybe Luke [Littler] is thinking that way with me a little bit.”
Seven-time major winner Price is looking to bounce back from a 6-2 quarter-final loss to Rob Cross on Night Eight which put ‘Voltage’ level on 12 points with the Welshman.
Price returns to action tomorrow (Monday) at the Players Championship Nine in Leicester.
