PRICE FIRES WARNING TO ENGLAND AHEAD OF WORLD CUP
09/06/2025 By Aaron Nijjar
GERWYN PRICE has warned England that Wales can knock them off their perch at the World Cup.
‘The Iceman’ will link up with Jonny Clayton as they bid for a third title together In Frankfurt.
The pair who have previously won the tournament in 2020 and 2023 are seeded second and will enter in the second round on Saturday.
England are favourites with world No.1 Luke Humphries and world No.2 Luke Littler leading the charge.
But Price believes he and Clayton have the firepower to triumph over their rivals.
He said: “Obviously England are favourites.
“The two Lukes are number one and number two in the world.
“But me and Jonny on our day, if we play our game like we have and normally do in the World Cup, we can make our way to the final.
“And if England are there, we can knock them off.”
Seven-times major winner Price is heading to Germany in strong form after picking up three ProTour titles and three nightly victories in the Premier League.
‘The Iceman’ finished fourth in the table and lost 10-7 to Littler in the semi-finals on finals night at the O2.
Markham thrower Price was left ruing a costly bust on a 100 checkout that would have put him 7-5 ahead against the teen sensation.
However, Price admits he was pleased with his overall performance throughout the campaign.
He added: “I think my Premier League was pretty decent overall.
“I’m a little bit up and down. I won a couple of nights.
“There was a couple of nights where I was losing consistently first game, I think five nights on the bounce which did not help.
“But when the pressure was on I came back.
“The semi-final on finals night I slipped up and let that get away from me.
“A couple of times in the game I could have kept myself two legs in front.
“The 100 checkout that I bust probably cost me the match and it was very frustrating.
“It’s timely moments you need to take and I didn’t take them.”
