GERWYN PRICE has warned his rivals claiming: “That was only my B game” after he secured victory at night 3 of the Premier League in Dublin.
The seven-time Major winner was in sublime form throughout the evening as he beat World champion Luke Littler and World number one Luke Humphries to reach the final.
‘The Iceman’ then averaged a scintillating 100.57 and took out 50% of his checkouts in a 6-3 final win against Nathan Aspinall.
It was the Welshman’s first nightly win since the 11th event in 2023 – where he went on to finish runner-up in the season-ending play-offs.
Price beat Littler for the fifth time in a row on the PDC stage. Despite this, the Markham thrower denied being ‘The Nuke’s’ nemesis on the oche.
He said: “I don’t think it’s that I have a particularly good record against him – it’s just that I have confidence in my own ability, and I know if I play well and bring my A Game to the stage, then whether it’s Luke or Michael [van Gerwen] or anybody, it doesn’t matter who I play.
“And I always say that. Some people say I am cocky and arrogant saying it, but it ain’t like that.
“If I am playing well, I know I’ll win games. I don’t think (it’s in his head). If it keeps happening, like it did when I lost to Michael van Gerwen 19 times on the bounce, the longer it goes on, then maybe it will (feel like a jinx).
“I wouldn’t say that was my A Game in Dublin – my highest average on the night was 102. That was probably like my B game. There is a hell of a lot more in the tank when I am on it.”
The former World champion justified his Premier League wildcard selection amidst comments from World Grand Prix champion Mike de Decker and highest ranked Dave Chisnall, who were both overlooked for the prestigious event.
He said: “We do deliver. You know, we weren’t as consistent as we wanted to be last year or maybe the last 12-18 months, but when push comes to shove, we will deliver, and we will put bums on seats and we will entertain.
“We want to do that every week. Week-in, week-out. Can Damon Heta, Mike De Decker and Chizzy do that? Maybe. But they need to prove it a little bit more.”
World No.9 Price has wasted no time making an impact this year, securing a ProTour title and finishing as runner-up at the first World Series event in Bahrain, reaffirming his status as a major contender to win a Major this year.
‘Gezzy’ is currently second in the Premier League and three points behind Humphries who leads. Michael van Gerwen and Littler occupy the remaining two play-off spots after both have recorded three match wins.
Week four of the tournament takes place in Exeter on 27 February.
