PHIL TAYLOR has praised Gerwyn Price for winning over the crowd as he secured his third Premier League Night win in Liverpool.

‘The Iceman’ beat Chris Dobey and Rob Cross en route to the final.

Markham thrower Price was in imperious form throughout the evening, but especially in the final, where he averaged 104.43, hit three 180s and threw a decisive 151 check out to defeat Luke Humphries 6-4 at the M&S Arena.

World No. 11 Price now sits third in the table on 20 points and is three ahead of Michael van Gerwen who is in fifth.

16-times World champion Taylor applauded Price for the triumph and believes keeping fans onside is now crucial as whistling and booing become more common in big events.

He said to BetGoodwin: “Massive shoutout to Gerwyn Price, did he hold his nerve?

“That’s the main thing now is the crowd involvement and holding your nerve when you’re under that much pressure.

“As they’re really like an extra dart in your hand when the crowd is with you.

“The darts is so big, it’s massive so many congratulations to Gerwyn Price, he did really well and Luke Humphries did.

“This Thursday is a massive night again as Night 13 is in Birmingham.

“Gerwyn Price he obviously is on a win so could be in contention.

“Luke Humphries is playing well. Stephen Bunting and Chris Dobey might struggle to qualify.

“Michael van Gerwen at the moment is in fifth which he will not like one bit. So let’s see what happens on Thursday.

“Whoever holds their nerve with the crowd has a massive chance.”

While Price basked in cheers, Luke Littler wasn’t so lucky.

Teen sensation Littler got booed heavily — partly because of his support for Manchester United — and became the night’s pantomime villain.

Price will face Luke Humphries in Birmingham this Thursday at the Premier League.

Seven-time major winner Price has hit the most 110 plus averages on tour this year with an astonishing eight and will be looking to keep up his impeccable scoring in the Utilita Arena.
