MICHAEL VAN GERWEN believes he is “capable of doing more” as he gears up to face Gerwyn Price in the quarter-final of the European Darts Trophy.

Three-time World Champion Van Gerwen beat Gian van Veen 6-4 and sealed the match with a stunning 104 checkout at Göttingen.

World Youth Champion Van Veen put on a great display in defeat as he averaged over 102 and hit a 120 checkout in a high-class affair.

‘Mighty Mike’ is yet to win a title this year and last won a televised ranked major in 2022 at the Players Championship Finals.

MVG admitted he knows he can achieve more success on the oche after a slow start to the year.

He said: “I don’t care whoever they put in front of me.

“If Michael van Gerwen turns up they are having a problem.

“I know I’m capable of doing more. You could see the 104 finish at the end of the game.

“As long as I keep putting my opponents under great pressure, I can do some great things.”

‘The Green Machine’ will be looking to avenge his 6-1 Premier League defeat against Price on Night Six at Nottingham.

World No. 2 Van Gerwen is relishing the challenge to face ‘The Iceman’.

He added: “Yeah of course Gerwyn Price is a big name.

“I need to make sure I’m concentrating on my own game and nobody else.

“The only thing I can do is get ready for tonight.

“I love what I’m doing at the moment. It gives you energy and the will to do more.”

Van Gerwen reached the final of the Premier League on Night Seven last week and despite losing 6-4 to Luke Littler he averaged over 101 and checked out 50 percent of his doubles.
