WILLIAMS REVEALS HARDEST DARTS PLAYER

SCOTT WILLIAMS has lifted the lid on who he thinks are the toughest men in darts.

‘Shaggy’ didn’t hold back when asked to name the hardest player away from the oche.

World No. 36 Williams believes several stars of the game would more than hold their own in a scrap.

But Williams had no hesitation in having a cheeky swipe at one former major champion.

He said: “If you look at a darts player that’s a non-Tour Card holder I would say someone like Boris Krcmar.

“In general hardness Rob Cross is surprisingly hard.

“Gezzy obviously knows what he is doing. He is probably technically good at fighting.

“Rob is like a little scratter. He’s slapping handbags about and if you need just a general scrap.

“Then a couple of the big Dutch lads they are absolute monsters.

“All of the Dutch lads especially people like Danny van Trijp – like all of their hands seem to be 50 percent bigger than mine.

“Daryl Gurney, I don’t think so – he is an absolute wetwipe, love you Daryl.”

Lincolnshire thrower Williams had an incredible journey from working in a warehouse to becoming one of the top players in the sport.

Williams won his first ProTour title in 2022 at the Players Championship 17 in Niedernhausen and has never looked back since.

The 35-year-old has come a long way from his humble beginnings as he made the semi-final of the World Championship last year and the quarter-final of the Players Championship Finals.

He added: “I used to work in a Warehouse at a label company. They do labels for coke bottles and Tescos packaging.

“I used to lug big amounts of material around as a forklifting driving busy body.

“I did that for five or six years and halfway through I started playing darts in 2017.

“I packed up there to experience darts at a high level.”

When asked which sportsman he would compare himself to, Williams chose British cult hero Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards.

The unlikely ski jumper defied the odds to compete at the 1988 Winter Olympics, making him a fitting underdog comparison for Williams.

He revealed: “Probably Eddie ‘The Eagle’ just because he should have never got to where he got.

“I am just a random council house kid who just got good at this pub game because I like beers.

“When I am on TV and I go to the exhibitions and do stuff you get to see the more real me.

“That is because I enjoy it that much, I love the stage and absolutely love people.

“I am a working-class person, so they have paid their money to go there and see some entertainment, and I want to entertain by chucking some decent darts.”
