WILLIAMS SHOCKED FROM BRUTAL FINE FOR GESTURE AT HUMPHRIES

SCOTT WILLIAMS has revealed he was left baffled after being fined for a cheeky gesture aimed at Luke Humphries on stage.
World No.36 Williams was slapped with a £250 penalty after sticking his middle fingers up behind Humphries during the 2022 Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton.
‘Shaggy’ admitted he had “no idea” what he’d even done until he got a call on the way home.
Williams’ antics were caught on camera, though, with the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) acting swiftly in response.
He said: “So those double fingers behind Luke Humphries at the Grand Slam, it was just a complete accident, I didn’t even think about it. It was just like a gesture, a joke kind of thing.
“I didn’t even think about it and then in the taxi on the way home, I had a phone call like, ‘What have you done?’ I was like, ‘I have no idea’.
“Then there’s videos on YouTube going everywhere with me chucking the old fingers up and I was like ‘Oh, that’s not great.’ £250 for that. Then I got £250 for saying the F-word on Sky Sports.”
‘Cool Hand’ secured a 5-2 victory on his way to topping their group before reaching the semi-finals.
Lincolnshire thrower Williams, meanwhile, was knocked out in the group stage despite beating Ryan Searle.
Former World Championship semi-finalist Williams was punished after putting his middle finger up to the crowd at the German Darts Grand Prix back in April.
The 35-year-old had taken exception with the audience in Munich during his second round defeat to Josh Rock and the DRA responded by issuing him with a £1,000 fine for his behaviour.
Asked about his relationship with the crowds in Germany, he added: “The crowds are weird because a lot of them are ok. I think it depends on who I play.
“If I’m playing another German, there’s no chance I’m getting anyone on my side. If I’m playing someone from a country that they’re probably not fond of, then I might get a few.
“I did an exhibition at the beginning of the year in Germany and I flipped the crowd off afterwards as well because they were booing me. Just (because) I don’t care. I’m not bothered about them at all.
“I think when I was at talkSPORT last to see (Andy) Goldstein and (Darren) Benty, I literally got my fine then, when I was there and it was £1,000. £1,000 for that finger.
“I got £250 for two fingers at Luke Humphries a couple of years ago at the Grand Slam so I don’t see the justice in that but it’s fine.”
Williams infamously gave a foul-mouthed post-match interview after beating Ryan Joyce at the 2023 PDC World Darts Championship.
As a result, he has been forced to pay out £1,500 in fines across his three charges from the DRA for swearing.
