PETER WRIGHT reckons he can get back to the top and upset the lethal Lukes.
The double World Champion has drawn teen sensation Luke Littler in the fourth round of the UK Open tonight (Friday).
Wright, 54, has dropped to World No.12 but he firmly believes he can still return to his best and outgun the new generation of big hitters.
He said: “Obviously, I want to win the Worlds again.
“But yeah, definitely win in the Worlds and just keep upsetting all these big players. Upset MVG (Michael van Gerwen), upset Luke Humphries and upset Luke Littler.”
“I also want to win the World Cup with Gary (Anderson) again.
“You know, it would be nice to actually win again with Gaz and then win it again.
“So we’ve won it actually, you know, three times together. That would be amazing.
Wright is one of the nicest guys on the circuit but revealed that he can be rattled and that’s why he chose ‘Snakebite’ as his nickname.
He added: “They’re just like sit in their little little hole and whatever.
“And if they get prodded and they think you’re going to bite back, you know, it’s like I’m shy and quiet.
“They’re shy and quiet. But if you go around upsetting them, so someone upsets me on stage.
“And I’m going to say, I like that. Yeah, I just like I’m going to fight back.
“But sometimes I do get a bit angry. With Gezzy Price for the semi-finals of the Worlds at that time, obviously, because he was sort of favourite for the tournament at that time. I did get a bit annoyed with him and then that’s why I beat him.
“Yeah, it’s like a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, like Snakebite’s my outer person, I’d like to be a confident, crazy guy.
But people know me off the dartboard, pretty shy, don’t really talk to anyone really, just keep myself to myself and really shy. But that person up there, that’s like putting all war paint on and going to battle.
“You know, and if people don’t know me as Snakebite or Pete Wright, they know me as that crazy guy with a funny colour hair and the mohawk.
“But yeah, there was the UK Open (in 2005), we’ve done the hair blue for the, because it was the Blue Square at the time.”
