VAN VEEN MISSES DOG TEDDY WHILE ON TOUR

GIAN VAN VEEN reveals the toughest part of darts stardom is being away from his DOG.

‘The Giant’ recently bought a Shih Tzu puppy with his girlfriend, and the couple named him Teddy.

World No.3 Van Veen reached the final of the World Championship earlier this year, earning call-ups to World Series events and the Premier League, meaning he is rarely at home.

Van Veen admits the hectic schedule keeps him away from his furry friend and partner, so he cherishes every moment when they are reunited.

He told De Telegraaf: “Because I don’t see much of that anymore either. That really helps me recharge.”

The Dutchman enjoyed a superb 2025 campaign, landing his maiden ProTour title and winning the European Championship, which saw his popularity soar among fans.

The 23-year-old has carried his impressive form into this season, reaching the semi-final of the World Masters and currently sitting second in the Premier League after four weeks,

Van Veen recently skipped the Players Championship Five and Six events to stay fresh for the weekly invitational, prioritising his calendar carefully.

He added: “I get recognized more often, people approach me and want a photo. It’s nice to get recognition for your good performances.

“And of course everyone is positive because you’re doing well.

“You have to listen to your body and pick up on signals when you notice you’re not really up for it.

“You obviously want to do well your first time in the Premier League. It’s something you might not experience often again, so you want to have full focus on it.”

Van Veen returns to action in Cardiff on Night Five of the Premier event and faces Jonny Clayton.
