MANBY BACKS MUSIC AT PDC FLOOR EVENTS

CHARLIE MANBY has backed the idea for MUSIC to be introduced at PDC floor events.
‘Champagne Charlie’ has experienced the stark contrast between the sport’s biggest stages and the near-silence of ProTour competitions.
The Huddersfield thrower went from reaching the fourth round of the World Championship at Alexandre Palace to gaining a Tour Card at Q-School this year.
Manby said: “You are allowed one guest per person and it is silent as well.
“Coming straight off a crowd of 3,000 people at Alexandra Palace, it was different.”
TalkSPORT presenter Andy Goldstein has suggested background tunes could be introduced at darts competitions to lift the atmosphere.
He pointed to nine-ball pool and Wimbledon as examples, where a central show court is kept traditional while outside courts have tunes playing in the background.
Manby added: “Maybe, yeah, possibly. It is definitely a thing that people might like.
“If I am practising at home, I will always have something on in the background.
“I can’t practise in silence.
“The room is not entirely silent, but there is not much noise going on. It is just like a constant little whisper from everyone.
“It is different in many ways. But I think if it is just you and the dartboard and you are playing your darts, you can perform the same.
“But I like the big stage events. I think it brings the best out of me.”
Manby has made a steady start to the season, reaching the quarter-finals of Players Championship Seven and Eight.
The 20-year-old also reached the fourth round of the UK Open and has signed a deal with leading manufacturer Target Darts.
