MUNYUA TARGETS TALKS WITH KENYAN PRESIDENT

15/04/2026 By Aaron Nijjar

DAVID MUNYUA is targeting talks with Kenya’s President after his historic Ally Pally win put darts firmly on the map.

The trailblazer made history in December 2025 as the first Kenyan to compete at the PDC World Championship and marked the occasion with a stunning 3-2 win over Mike De Decker.

The Vet was congratulated by Kenyan President William Ruto, who sent a message online after his remarkable London victory, with a meeting now being lined up.

Munyua believes that breakthrough has opened doors at the highest level as he looks to grow the sport back home.

He told Oche 180: “There is a lot going on. It has been a short time and we are still looking forward to meeting him.

“He was very interested in that because it has never happened before.

“I was the first Kenyan to participate in the PDC World Championship.

“I think right now I am in a position to speak well about darts and how we can improve it in our country.

“That’s why I am still working on it, and we are progressing quite well. Things will be very different soon as far as that is concerned.”

Munyua also believes the game can have a powerful impact beyond competition by helping to unite communities across Africa.

He added: “That will be a rather huge appeal as far as unity is concerned, especially in Africa.

“In Kenya, we have almost 50 different tribes and sport is the only activity that brings this culture together.

“We can have one particular aim: to play and interact, share ideas and move forward peacefully.”

The PDC reacted to the ‘Munyua effect’ by handing Africa TWO guaranteed spots at the 2026/27 World Darts Championship.

The two places will be awarded via the African Darts Group, with a Northern African Qualifier and a Southern African Qualifier deciding who heads to the major tournament.

It’s a huge moment for the sport’s global expansion and a direct reward for the impact Munyua made on the biggest stage of them all.
