MUNYUA HAILS ‘KENYAN LITTLER’ AS FUTURE STAR
21/04/2026 By Aaron Nijjar
DAVID MUNYUA believes Africa can produce a darts world champion within five years after the emergence of a Kenyan Luke Littler.
The trailblazer made history in December 2025 as the first Kenyan to compete at the PDC World Championship and marked the occasion with a stunning 3-2 win over Mike De Decker.
Why Not insists the talent is already there and says it is only a matter of time before someone from his country competes at the very top of the sport.
Munyua admits the game is still developing across his home nation but says progress is being made.
He told Oche180: “I think 15 years is a very long time. Maybe you can give us five years. From five years we will be in a position where we can have a world champion.
“It is possible. We have what it takes. We only need, when we have good players competing together, that there is this intensity.
“For now we have very few people with this exposure. It’s not in a position where we can improve it that well.
“We still have more coming and performing. In a few years we will have a good number. Out of that number we can get someone who can aim to win the world championship”
Munyua went on to single out one promising youngster as proof the next generation is already coming through.
He added: “They are there. We have one in Kenya who went to Budapest. I think he is 14 and he is doing quite well.
“He is called Aryan Khalsa. We are doing a lot to keep them believing that it is possible and that we have a chance to compete in major tournaments like the Modus.
“Back home we compete with him and he is doing well. He beats me sometimes and I try to push him where it’s possible.
“When he gets to 18 he will be in a position to do well.”
Munyua is currently teaming up with fellow compatriot Peter Wachiuri at the MODUS Super Series’ International Pairs tournament.
