WRIGHT ADMITS HE IS TOO RELAXED

PETER WRIGHT admits being too “relaxed” could be contributing to his struggles on the oche.

Snakebite finally picked up his first European Tour win of the season with a 6-2 victory over Zoran Lerchbacher at the Austrian Darts Open in Graz.

The two-time world champion averaged 90.16 and fired in four 180s to comfortably book his place in round two after suffering back-to-back first-round exits on the Euro Tour.

The Scot has shown glimpses of his old brilliance this year, reaching the quarter-finals of Players Championship 7 and the fifth round of the UK Open.

But Wright admitted he is still struggling to find the intensity needed to consistently compete at the top level.

He said: “It was great to win. Obviously, it was going to be hard to play Zoran in front of his home crowd. It was only the first leg where he was really dangerous.

“He was struggling like me the whole match. I was going to switch [darts] after the first leg. I am glad I didn’t.

“To be honest, I am more relaxed, which is not good. Maybe I need to be playing a lot more competitions to be 100 percent focused.

“I am enjoying darts again and that is the main thing.”

The world No.33 endured the toughest year of his career in 2025, slipping out of the world’s top 16, failing to win a title and not reaching a single major semi-final.

Wright returns to action on Saturday and will face defending champion Martin Schindler for a place in the last 16.
