WADE STUNNED AFTER FERGUSON INVITES HIM INTO MAN UTD OFFICE

JAMES WADE was left stunned after Sir Alex Ferguson invited him into his office during a visit to Manchester United.

The ex-Red Devils boss was recently taken to hospital as a precaution after feeling unwell before United’s clash with Liverpool earlier this month.

Ferguson led United to 38 trophies across nearly three decades in charge of the club.

But 11-time major winner Wade recalled visiting Carrington alongside the legendary Phil Taylor and expecting none of the players to recognise him.

Wade admitted he felt completely out of place at first because football has “never been my thing”.

He said: “I’ve met some wonderful people and we went to Manchester United’s training ground and for some of the players they were like, this is the most amazing thing in the world.

“I just went in there like, because I don’t know anything about football. I’ve got no interest in football really.

“Which, you get left out of quite a lot of things because most blokes like football, they talk about football all the time.

“It’s always on at the pub but it’s not been my thing. First of all, we are walking around the training ground and I am like, none of these footballers are going to know me.”

But Wade was shocked when United legend Ryan Giggs immediately recognised him.

He added: “Then we walked in there and I swear to you, Ryan Giggs — I know him so he must be really well known.

“He ran over to me, ‘Alright Wadey’. I thought, how does he know me? How does he know my name!”

The Machine revealed how Taylor briefly held up the tour after stopping for food in the club cafeteria.

He joked: “I was with Phil Taylor so we walked around and we were all told this is the cafeteria, you can have something to eat but this tour has got to be quick.

“So Phil obviously ordered mussels and he sat down to start eating. So we had to wait for that.”

Wade then recalled the hilarious moment Taylor tried to get a Manchester United star to name him as his favourite darts player.

He continued: “Then we went to this swimming resistance thing in the pool.

“I can’t even tell you who this is, it’s a German footballer and Phil Taylor was leaning over asking, ‘Who is your favourite dart player, it is Taylor?’

“He went, ‘No. James Wade’.

“You should’ve seen Phil’s face, it was the best picture you would have ever seen. It was brilliant.”

Wade explained the standout moment of the visit came when former United gaffer Ferguson invited him into his office for a private chat.

He added: “The icing on the cake was Alex Ferguson invited me into his office to chat.

“Apparently that’s really unheard of and I was just in there. For someone who doesn’t appreciate football, I know who he is.

“I was a little bit overwhelmed with his presence. He just asked me more about what I think and how I think.

“It was more of an interview. Then he was showing me all the gifts that he is getting.

“I was in there for five to ten minutes. It was a wow thing.”
