GREAVES CALLS FOR WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE TO ‘SHAKE UP’ DARTS

BEAU GREAVES reckons a women’s Premier League could stop darts fans branding the current roadshow “boring” and “flat”.
The women’s world No.1 says introducing female players alongside the men would “shake it up” and bring fresh excitement to Thursday nights.
But Greaves also admitted she knows some viewers will question whether the standard in the women’s game is ready for that stage yet.
She told talkSPORT: “It’s probably a bit of a stretch but I would have a female Premier League as well alongside the men.
“I know people probably don’t want to see the ladies play, I get it. But it also adds something to them sort of nights.
“The Premier League is great but I see a lot of people say it is a bit boring or it is a bit flat.
“It is repetitive. I think if you throw something else in the mix it might, not even necessarily the ladies, just other tours or something, just to shake it up and make it interesting.”
The Doncaster thrower has enjoyed a sensational rise, winning 55 PDC Women’s Series titles and landing her maiden ProTour crown at Players Championship 11 earlier this year.
But despite growing up in a darts obsessed family, Greaves revealed her dad needed convincing before he realised how talented she was.
She said: “My grandad plays and so on. Obviously, my dad played and my uncle played. Then Taylor played, my brother, and then I started playing.
“Then when I started playing he said to my dad, ‘Oh, she is quite good,’ and he didn’t believe him.
“The board was upstairs and it took him ages to come upstairs for him to be like, ‘The way I throw is a very natural throw for a girl.’”
Greaves admits she still has no idea why her father was so sceptical in the first place.
She added: “I don’t know, it is just not common I suppose.
“I have never actually asked him to be honest. I probably should ask him. That is just the story that is about.
“My dad found out and he weren’t bothered until I was good so I have got a bone to pick with him now.”
