Cameron Menzies admitted he had a “massive brain fart” as he miscounted and hit the wrong double with match darts against Mike De Decker at the European Darts Trophy.
The Scotsman beat ‘The Real Deal’ 6-5 in a last leg thriller at Göttingen to enter the last eight.
World Grand Prix champion De Decker hit a stellar 102 checkout in the match and led the match 5-4 before Menzies fired back to take the match to a decider.
De Decker then missed five match darts in a chaotic final leg and Menzies needed just D9 to seal the win against the Belgian.
‘Cammy’ missed the outer ring three times and went to split with single 6 and D6 but miscounted and went for D4.
World No. 39 Menzies did spare his blushes and eventually got over the line smashing in D2 to advance.
Following his victory the Glasgow thrower revealed he had a “brain fart” and felt lucky to beat De Decker.
He said: “I buggered that. If I spoke the words I want to say then I would be fined.
“I don’t know man. I had a massive brain fart.
“Counting is usually one of my strong points but I screwed that massively.
“Lucky to win but I made an arse of it.
“This absolute crowd is amazing. I spoke to my friend earlier this is why we do European Tours.”
Menzies has reached the quarter-final of a European Tour for the first time since 2019 and will face Ryan Joyce later today (Sunday).
