DARTS ACE BELIEVES LETHAL LUKES COULD BREAK WORLD CUP RECORD

LEGEND Colin Lloyd reckons Luke Littler and Luke Humphries could break an iconic record.
‘The Nuke’ and ‘Cool Hand’ are favourites to lead England to World Cup glory next month on June 12-15 in Frankfurt.
Legendary pairing Eric Bristow and John Lowe set the benchmark with SIX World Cup pairs titles during the old BDO days.
But with the event now held annually, Lloyd admits Littler and Humphries could surpass that feat.
He told talkSPORT: “There is a possibility. Don’t forget with Bristow and Lowe their title haul is so good.
“Every two years in the old BDO, WDF system — that longevity of six World Cup titles, pairs titles — that makes it even more special.
“They didn’t have the opportunity to play together and represent England every year in the World Cup.
“They’ve won those six titles over twelve years.”
World No. 1 Humphries and World Champion Littler could technically eclipse that in just seven years if they stay unbeaten — a run that would make them the most successful team in World Cup history.
Two-time major winner Lloyd added: “If Luke Humphries and Luke Littler don’t get beat now for seven years on the spin then they’ve won seven in seven years.
“Whereas in the old system it would have been over fourteen years.
“Records are there to be broken.
“It’s great to be someone in the record books and have all these records and accolades.
“But at some point or another, there always seems to be — over the years in any walk of life — someone bigger, better, stronger and faster.”
Teen sensation Littler and Humphries are the only players averaging over 100 in this year’s Premier League.
Littler tops the charts with a stunning 102.77, while Humphries follows closely with 100.04 after more than 30 matches each played.
Warrington whizkid Littler has five Nightly wins and Cheshire ace Humphries has a stellar three in the competition.
Both darting superstars have already qualified for the Play-offs at the O2 next week with Littler top of the table and Humphries in second.
After 15 weeks of action in the tournament, there have only been FOUR occasions where neither of the lethal Lukes have featured in a Nightly final.
