LOWE CONFIRMS WORLD SENIORS DARTS HAS FOLDED

JOHN LOWE confirmed that the World Seniors Darts tour has “folded” immediately.

The popular circuit sparked concern of the news after suddenly changing its branding, renaming its social media and removing its websites.

All tickets regarding future events have also been removed and are no longer accessible.

Former World Champ Lowe admits the discontinuation will be a “big blow” for players who hoped to extend their careers at the oche.

He wrote on Facebook: “Received the news yesterday, the World Seniors Darts has folded.

“I know Jason Thame and Francis did all they could to make it a success, and to be honest gave it time to grow.

“I took part in the inauguration, the first Seniors World Championship, receiving a fabulous reception from the audience and TV viewers.

“I believed it was going to grow from there, however it was not to be, and after much deliberation the organisers pulled the plug.

“It will be a blow for many who thought it was an extension to their career. Who knows, the Seniors tour may resume in time.”

Ex-pro Chris Mason heaped praise on promoters Jason Thame and Jason Francis who organise the hugely successful World Snooker Seniors at the Crucible.

He added: “They both invested a fortune in time and money, credit to them because it was something done out of pure passion for our sport.

“Let’s hope they could maybe create a one-off event once a year somewhere just for the fans to get to see their old favourites.”
