CHISNALL WARNED OVER NEGATIVE ATTITUDE AFTER TORRID SEASON

ALAN WARRINER-LITTLE has expressed concern about Dave Chisnall’s negative attitude after a “torrid season” at the oche.
‘Chizzy’ dumped out Nathan Aspinall 6-2 in the opening round of the World Series Finals with a steady 92.05 average and sealed the victory nailing a stellar 160 checkout.
World No. 14 Chisnall recorded just his SECOND win at a major this year in a nightmare season.
Former World Grand Prix Champ Warriner-Little admits he’s worried about the St Helens star’s fragile mindset.
He said: “It’s good to see him get a win to be honest. I mean he has had a torrid season for the level that he can play at.
“Even then there was negativity in his interview because he was like ‘Oh if I miss this 160 Nathan is going to take his checkout and break me to win the match’.
“That comes from all the defeats he has had this season. He’s not in a great place so that win may give him a chance to get a bit more confidence.
“He has always been a big 180 scorer, but that negativity concerns me because he has had such a bad season.
“That does play on your mind, and we have all been there. But he just needed that win more than anybody in the first round.
“That negativity is created because of the losses.”
Chisnall has lost his last SIX consecutive matches on the Euro Tour, leaving him on course for a trophyless season for the first time since 2021.
The 45-year-old crashed out at the first hurdle of the World Matchplay in July with a 10-7 defeat to Belgian Mike De Decker after averaging just 91.87 in the Winter Gardens.
But Chisnall has shown glimpses of brilliance this year as he reached the final of the Players Championship 15 in Hildesheim before falling 8-4 to Kryzsztof Ratajski in the final.
