HEARN HINTS AT BIGGER VENUE FOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

BARRY HEARN has hinted that the World Darts Championship could be moved to a bigger venue following a record-breaking demand for tickets this year.
PDC President Hearn has overseen the incredible growth of darts, especially following the rise of young star Luke Littler, which has seen the sport’s popularity soar in recent years.
Tickets for this year’s event at Ally Pally sold out almost instantly, with a staggering 125,000 tickets gone in just 10 MINUTES.
Hearn compared the demand to the rush for tickets to the Glastonbury music festival, admitting he was astounded by the response.
He told talkSPORT: “I sold 125,000 tickets in 10 minutes. The demand is almost comparable to Glastonbury. That says it all.
“I don’t want people to say they spent five years trying to get tickets and never got in. If you can’t serve the demand, the demand goes somewhere else.
“There is a bigger venue at Ally Pally. We might go there. Then you’re talking about thousands of extra seats per day.
“We have to move with the public. The sport is growing… and we are growing with it.”
The 77-year-old put part of the sport’s success down to its accessibility, highlighting that all you need is a dartboard and three darts to start playing.
He added: “In 51 years of promoting sport, I’ve never seen anything like this. And I’m not just talking about the United Kingdom – darts is growing worldwide.
“Just like football is great because all you need is a ball, for darts you need a board and three darts.
“No club dues, no expensive facilities. Hang it up in your bedroom and you can start.”
