GARY ANDERSON admitted his game is “getting there” after a sensational display to reach the third round.
The Flying Scotsman came from a set down to beat Connor Scutt 3-1 at the Ally Pally last night (Tuesday).
Ando, 55, responded with a devastating power surge of scoring to deliver a 105 average with nine 180s.
He revealed: “The high scoring was there but the doubles were a bit iffy.
“We are getting there, it’s not quite together yet but we are getting there.
“Jermaine is a different player than the last time I played him. The last two years, fantastic. He’s got confidence and he’s a cracking dart player.
“Just like Connor there. And what a match before with Danny (Noppert) and ‘Happy Feet’ Justin. What a cracking game that was.”
Anderson’s finishing let him down in the opening set but after that setback he was sensational.
Ex-world champ John Part said: “It was one of these matches where a top player had their back pushed to the wall and then they fight back.
“Definitely Connor Scutt, quality player. He definitely asked questions early going.
“For Gary it was about I better get going now. And he answered well winning the second set. After that he was settled in I thought.
“He just kept going and made life really difficult for Connor. It was a 105 average and bull finish to win it.
“Vintage Gary Anderson is always a treat. To see him playing how he’s played on the floor so often, up here on the World Championship stage. That it what we want to see from Gary Anderson. We want him to keep it up.”
