GARY ANDERSON admits he has “not got many years left” at the oche after powering into the second round of the World Matchplay.
‘The Flying Scotsman’ rolled back the years to defeat Luke Woodhouse 10-5 at the Winter Gardens with a stellar 98.02 average and a near-clinical 10 out of 15 on the doubles.
Former World Champion Anderson ended a run of FOUR consecutive defeats at major tournaments to book a last-16 spot and spark hope of another deep run on the big stage.
World No. 12 Anderson opened up on his future in the sport and heaped praise on the raucous Blackpool crowd after his victory.
He said: “I think I went in the first break 3-2 up, then it went 5-5 and after that I just thought, keep throwing.
“I changed darts a few times which is not a good thing, but it came good in the end.
“The practice board has been going great, and the crowd are a mad bunch.
“It’s still the Scottish holidays so come Tuesday they’ll all be going home, but it’s appreciated.
“I have not got many years left so I’ll soak it in and take the moments in now.”
Eight-times major winner Anderson has been in great form this year on the ProTour already bagging the Players Championship Seven and the European Darts Grand Prix titles.
The 54-year-old returns to action on Tuesday and will face either Ryan Joyce or Stephen Bunting as he continues his bid to lift the Phil Taylor Trophy.
