CULLEN URGES FANS TO EJECT WHISTLERS AFTER CROWD TROUBLE

JOE CULLEN has urged fans to eject whistlers after crowd trouble at the European Darts Grand Prix.

The Rockstar saw off Gian van Veen 6-3 with a composed display, averaging 91.73 and nailing 40 per cent of his doubles.

World No.32 Cullen suggested the packed schedule of playing in the Premier League had caught up with the Dutchman on the big stage.

He said: “I’ve been in Gian’s position before, where it is your first year in the Premier League and you are so excited to be there.

“It really takes it out of you. I don’t think Gian will mind me saying this — it was a tired performance.

“It’s just week upon week; it takes its toll on you. I felt my first dart wasn’t sitting right, so I was switching more than I like to.

“Gian is one of them — when he throws with the stacking, if that first dart goes up above, he’s chasing the board as well.

“I don’t think he was himself personally. I just think he was tired.”

Cullen praised the German spectators but called for an end to disruptive behaviour.

The previous clash saw Huw Ware halt Dave Chisnall and Gerwyn Price’ clash to warn whistling fans in the Glaspalast they would be thrown out.

Cullen added: “The German fans are incredible but please just one thing, just cut out the whistling.

“Or if someone is whistling at the side of you, get rid of them because it’s just spoiling the games.

“It didn’t happen to me tonight, but it’s happened a few times.”

Cullen returns to action on Sunday afternoon when he faces Krzysztof Ratajski, as he looks to reach his first European Tour quarter-final of the season.
