DARTS ACE HAILS LEWIS AS THE LITTLER OF HIS DAY AHEAD OF RETURN

DEVON PETERSEN admits Adrian Lewis “was what Luke Littler is now” as the four-times major winner gears up for his return to the oche.
‘Jackpot’ will head back to competitive darts at the MODUS Super Series later this month after a two-year hiatus.
Stoke-on-Trent thrower Lewis is set to feature alongside Steve Beaton in the International Pairs and play in the Influencer Showdown from August 25.
Former UK Open quarter-finalist Petersen has backed Lewis to thrive on his comeback and compared the 40-year-old to teen sensation Littler.
He said: “Adrian Lewis is a fantastic talent let’s put the line in the sand we already know that.
“A back-to-back World Champion, all of the other stuff and nine-darters in the finals. He was what Luke Littler is now. He was that boy.
“I think life has knocked him a bit sideways, changed paths and focus. To have him return it shows his tenacity and bounce back ability.
“I know that coming back from injury and lack of form it happens to everybody.
“Adrian Lewis, I have seen him at exhibitions he is playing top tier darts and beating the very best with 107 averages.
“That gets me very excited because now we get to see one of the very best make a return.
“A lot of the time we see them exit and never return. We get to see Adrian Lewis pull that lever one more time and can he hit the jackpot?”
Lewis etched his name in darts history as the youngest player to achieve back-to-back World Championship titles at 26-years-old in 2012.
Warrington whizkid Littler became the youngest winner of the Sid Waddell trophy at Ally Pally when he defeated Michael van Gerwen in the final earlier this year at just 17-years-old.
