DARTS LEGEND QUESTIONS TAYLOR AND LITTLER MATCH

VINCENT van der Voort has questioned whether Luke Littler’s exhibition match against Phil Taylor is a good idea.

Target Darts appeared to announce last week that ‘The Nuke’ and ‘The Power’ would be facing off in a match soon.

The master vs apprentice match has been touted as “two champions going head-to-head for the first time ever”, and fans are hopeful of seeing the 16-time World Champion Taylor face the teenage sensation Littler.

However, Van der Voort believes there is now a mismatch of ability in the potential matchup.

Speaking on the podcast Darts Draait Door, the Dutchman said: “You don’t want to see Taylor humiliated, do you?

“It’s an uneven battle, isn’t it, man?

“Taylor must not want this anymore, right? Last year he was also supposed to throw an exhibition against Michael van Gerwen and then they had to shorten the format as well.

“He felt himself that he couldn’t give Michael a match anymore. I don’t want to see this at all either.”

‘The Dutch Destroyer’ thought it would be a better idea to see Littler and Taylor play alongside each other in a match with world number one Luke Humphries and another top thrower.

Agreeing with the idea put forward by podcast host Damian Vlottes, he said: “I’d rather see a pairs match of those two than see them against each other. Let’s do that.”

At just 17-years-old Littler became the youngest ever World Champion and has already picked up FIVE majors in 10 months after he won the UK Open.

However, Littler has a long way to go to topple Taylor off his perch.

Taylor has won 15 more World Championships, 16 more World Matchplay titles, 11 more World Grand Prix titles, four more UK Opens and five more Premier Leagues – to name a few.
