HUMPHRIES ADMITS HE MAY HAVE TO SCRAPE THROUGH

LUKE HUMPHRIES has admitted he may have to “scrape through” as his frustrating Premier League campaign continues.
The world No.2 is still searching for his first nightly win after 12 weeks and has reached just one final so far.
“Cool Hand” has struggled to find his best form and was beaten 6-2 by Luke Littler in the quarter-finals in Liverpool last week.
That result left him sixth in the table and five points adrift of the play-off places heading into the final weeks.
But Humphries insists he is not giving up on his chances of making the top four.
He said: “Maybe it is just going to be one of them years where I really have to fight it out and scrape through in the end.
“But I am going to keep trying, keep pushing and give it everything I have got you know.
“Maybe even just one nightly win in the next five weeks will be enough if I had a few wins or runners-up in between.
“So, I am just fully focused on trying to get that nightly win really.”
The defending champion has reached at least the final in each of his first two seasons in the competition.
The Cheshire thrower also won a combined eight nights across those campaigns which underlines the drop off this year.
Despite his struggles, Humphries still boasts the second highest tournament average at 100.39 which shows his level has remained high with missed doubles proving costly.
He returns to action this Thursday on the weekly roadshow where he faces Michael van Gerwen in a crucial clash at Aberdeen.
