HUMPHRIES HITS OUT AT CROWD ABUSE IN WIEZE

22/03/2026 By Aaron Nijjar

LUKE HUMPHRIES has hit out at the “really horrible” abuse from a member of the crowd at the Belgium Darts Open.

‘Cool Hand’ was involved in a tense moment during his round two victory over Dirk van Duijvenbode in Wieze.

World No.2 Humphries was seen shushing the crowd during the clash and revealed it came after one spectator crossed the line with comments he refused to repeat.

Humphries made it clear that while darts arenas are known for their noise and passion, this went far beyond the usual atmosphere.

He said: “It’s not nice when you have people in the crowd say some really horrible things.

“I had one person say some really horrible things in the crowd. I know I react and you probably shouldn’t, but it’s hard.

“The adrenaline is there and when people say things it kind of annoys you. It’s not like they are saying things that you can just ignore.

“As darts players we don’t really deserve that. A bit of booing and whistling is annoying but I don’t really care.

“But when you say horrible things, which he was saying, I am not going to repeat them on camera.

“It is kind of annoying but it is what it is. I am never going to sit here and just moan about it.

“If I want to retaliate, I will. It probably just takes your concentration away a little bit, to be honest.”

Humphries admitted he still feels there is more to come from his game despite putting up strong averages.

He added: “I am playing alright and hitting 100 averages, but they are just not the performances.

“Usually when I hit 100 averages they are really good performances. I don’t want to sound too down about it because it was good enough.

“But there is so much more to give. That first dart needs to start dropping in a bit more and if it does you will see more explosive performances.

“I am one of my own worst enemies. I am very critical of myself but I feel there is so much more to give in my game right now, even though I am playing good.

“It is just a little increase in my performances that will leverage it into better performances.”
