LUKE HUMPHRIES insisted he is “not out of second gear” despite powering into the third round of the Belgian Darts Open.
The world No.2 saw off Dirk van Duijvenbode 6-4 with a solid 100.25 average to continue his run in Wieze.
‘Cool Hand’ has thrived on the European Tour over the past four years, collecting an impressive eight titles
Humphries admits he still has plenty more to offer as he set up a clash with Jermaine Wattimena on Sunday afternoon.
He said: “To be fair to Dirk, he came back really well there. It is kind of a strange scenario for me as a player at the moment.
“100 averages, I am hitting them. I feel like there is so much more to give and it is not coming out.
“I am not really worried about it. It is just one of them things. If you are averaging 89 and stuff, then you have a chance to worry.
“It’s still good darts. I am not even out of second gear. There is something there that is going to come out of me soon.
“It is just unfortunate it is not happening enough at the moment. But I am hitting 100 averages, not playing my best.
“I have to try find something to make them 105 and 107 averages.”
Humphries is still chasing a maiden crown at the Oktoberhallen, with his best run coming in 2023 when he fell to an 8-6 defeat against Michael van Gerwen in the final.
