LIM REVEALS FINAL DARTING DREAM

PAUL LIM has revealed his final darting dream is to carry the Singapore flag into the OLYMPICS.
The 72-year-old legend insists darts deserves to be recognised alongside other major sports and hopes to see it one day become part of the Olympic games.
Lim was back on the World Cup stage this week alongside partner Phuay Wei Tan as Singapore’s campaign came to an end in Frankfurt.
The pair rounded off their tournament with a 4-2 victory over Gibraltar, but an earlier 4-1 defeat to Ireland proved costly as they missed out on a place in the knockout stages.
Lim admits he would like to see the flying arrows get greater recognition and be included on the biggest stage of all.
He said: “I see people playing bridge as part of the [Asian] Games… I mean come on. I hate to say that.
“I believe in darts as a sport more than a lot of the recommended activities that they have.
“I really hope that one day from SEA Games to Asian Games to Olympics we will actually be recognised as a sport.
“It really is, people don’t understand. It’s a tough game.
“I just wish that I could be apart of that era when we actually could – I could carry the Singapore flag and walk in the Olympic arena to represent the country.
“I think that’s my last dream to what I have because I believe that we deserve that as dart players.”
Lim etched his name into darts history by becoming the first player to hit a nine-dart finish at the BDO World Championship, achieving the feat during his second-round clash with Jack McKenna in 1990.
He also holds the record as the oldest player to compete and win a match at the PDC World Championship, defeating Jeffrey de Graaf in the opening round of the 2026 tournament at the age of 71.
Lim believes his longevity can inspire the next generation of players across Asia.
He added: “The lifespan of a darts player is different from that of a basketball player.
“Even golfers can still compete at 65 on the senior tour.
“In darts, it’s really about how much you want it.
“I hope I’m living proof that there is longevity in this game.
“I hope more players believe in that and keep going.”
