LUKE LITTLER has galloped into the world of horse racing after teaming up with Stephen Bunting and former Manchester United striker Michael Owen to buy a racehorse.

World No.1 Littler is now part-owner of a two-year-old colt bought for £54,000 and trained by Hugo Palmer in Cheshire.

The horse has been named Bunting Mental, a nod to the famous darts chant “let’s go Bunting mental” regularly heard when Bunting walks on stage.

The colt is by Ardad, sire of sprint star and Royal Ascot winner Perfect Power, and has already impressed connections in early work.

Trainer Hugo Palmer is confident the new ownership group have landed a promising horse.

He told SunSport: “They haven’t been up to the yard yet, they’re due to come but they’ve been busy with the Premier League darts.

“Stephen is a big racing fan and I think everyone saw how much Luke enjoyed Cheltenham. He has a huge following and he is an extraordinary talent.

“It’s great to have a young guy involved, most of our high-profile sportsmen in horse ownership are of my generation, so it’s great to have people of the next generation.

“I think they have a really nice horse on their hands.

“He has pleased us in everything that he’s done, he won’t be ready to run for a couple of months but he is a horse we are high on.”

The colt caught the eye during a recent racecourse gallop and is expected to be ready for a debut in June.
