Luke Littler had “nothing to lose” after recovering from 8-4 down to complete a sensational comeback and defeat Mike De Decker 10-9 in the Grand Slam of Darts.
The teenage sensation reeled off six of the last seven legs against the recent World Grand Prix champion to book his place into the quarter-finals.

Despite the comeback, questions were raised about how the crowd behaved towards De Decker, as the Belgian star was faced with booing and whistling from those in attendance.

Post-match, the teenage sensation opened up on his mentality when the odds were stacked against him as he produced back-to-back 12 dart legs to defeat the Belgian.

“I got to feel for Mike [De Decker], he gave everything at me when I was dropping off all the time and not finding the treble and I got over the line,” he told Oche.

“A few times, the crowd were singing ‘There’s only one Luke Littler,’ and I just couldn’t find what they wanted. I couldn’t find that two or three treble visits. At 9-7, I thought to myself, ‘You’ve got nothing to lose now – just try to hit back at him.’ I got one back, and obviously, the crowd got on his back even worse. I then took full advantage.

“I’ve just got to dig deep and do my stuff. Obviously, all us players love the longer format cause we can then get into the game and I left it to late against Mike then. I pulled myself up and got over the line.”

After first-round exits at the World Matchplay and World Grand Prix, Littler will be looking to add to his title-winning tally in Wolverhampton but is only thinking as far as his next game.

“I’ll just focus on Jermaine [Wattimena], I’ll chill out Friday and then I’ll come back Saturday better hopefully,” he said.
