MENZIES NEARLY PULLED OUT OF POLAND MASTERS

CAMERON MENZIES admits he nearly PULLED OUT of the Poland Masters after falling out of love with darts.

‘Cammy’ stormed into the third round of the Euro Tour event with a dominant 6–0 victory over James Wade, firing in a blistering 99.10 average and clinically converting 50 per cent of his doubles.

The Scot injured his hand at the World Championship after punching the table three times following a defeat to Charlie Manby in December.

Menzies opened up on just how close he came to withdrawing from the event in Krakow.

He said: “I was so close to pulling out this weekend. I fell out of love with the game because of, obviously, what I have done to myself.

“It was my own fault. But this is why I do it — look at this. Why do I want to give this up and go back to plumbing when you get fans like this?”

World No.29 Menzies was quick to show respect to Wade despite the crushing scoreline.

He added: “It sounds good for me, but Wadey wasn’t himself out there — which I’ll obviously take because he missed a few chances here and there.

“That’s not like him because he’s one of the most clinical finishers in the world and that’s why he’s ranked No 7.

“He’s a top dog for a reason. I played my best game of the season, so I’m ecstatic. That means a lot.”

Menzies now faces a daunting challenge in the last 16, going up against Wessel Nijman, who sensationally ousted Gary Anderson

He continued: “He has arguably been the best player on the tour since the start of this season. He has lost one final and won another.

“He is banging 100 averages every day. He is a force to be reckoned with. He, alongside Gian van Veen, will be the man.

“No A-game, I go home.”
