NOPPERT MISSES PREMIER LEAGUE DUE TO PERSONALITY

CHRIS MURPHY believes Danny Noppert’s lack of personality cost him a place in the Premier League.

World No10 Noppert enjoyed a hugely consistent season, reaching the semi-finals of FOUR PDC major events and making a final on the European Tour.

But darts pundit Murphy reckons consistency alone is not enough to earn a place in the elite weekly invitational tournament.

Murphy believes the Dutchman’s omission underlines how entertainment value and on-stage personality can carry just as much weight as results when it comes to selection for the event.

He told talkSPORT: “I am not a massive advocate for Danny Noppert being in the Premier League at the moment.

“He played the best match at the World Championship against Justin Hood. Both players played their part.

“It sounds horrible — and it is a darts competition at the end of the day — but I do think he still lacks that little bit of X-factor, that little bit of character and personality that you need to get people off their seats in arenas.

“Danny Noppert is unfortunately one of those players who is going to have to do more than others to get in.

“That is the way with the Premier League. It has always been that way, and personally it doesn’t make me any less likely to watch with Danny Noppert not being in. Sorry, Danny.”

‘The Freeze’ released a statement on Instagram after he was not chosen to take part in the competition.

Noppert wrote: “Unfortunately, I wasn’t selected for this year’s Premier League.

“Still, it truly means a lot to me to see more and more people speaking positively about me and mentioning my name as a potential candidate.

“I really appreciate all the support, it genuinely does me good.

“For now, I’ll just concentrate on having another good season. Thank you all once again for the support❤️, and best of luck to everyone competing in the Premier League.”
